The Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme, also referred to as PMSSS 2024-2025, is designed to assist students from Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in pursuing higher education. There are many types of Scholarships awarded under PMSSS. Students from around the state can apply for AICTE PMSSS. It covers the academic fee of the meritorious students so that they can focus on their studies without worrying about financial support. Selected meritorious students get a sum of Rs 1 lakh in 10 equal instalments under PMSSS scholarship.

Eligible candidates can apply for AICTE PMSSS Scholarship on official website of AICTE. They shall register themselves, fill application form, upload important documents to complete their registration. They need to select a few colleges, courses as a form of AICTE Choice filling, on the basis of which they are allotted seats. Then the merit list releases and document verification takes place for selected students. Registration for PMSSS Scholarship open on 18 June 2024. Last date to apply for AICTE PMSSS scholarship is 22 July 2024. There is no application fee for this scholarship.

About PMSSS Scholarship

Originating in 2010, PMSSS emerged from an expert Group formed by Prime Minister, which identified necessity to enhance employment prospects for region’s youth through a blend of public and private sector initiatives. The eligible and interested candidates can apply online on the official AICTE portal.

PMSSS Scholarship types

  1. PMSSS provides 5000 fresh scholarships annually.
  2. Scholarship is allocated based on the type of course:

Adjustments in number of scholarships for Engineering and Medical Studies may occur within total annual limit of 5000, considering any savings from fewer students opting for General Degree Courses.

PMSSS Eligibility Criteria

  1. Citizenship/Nativity: Indians who are residents of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir are eligible to apply for PMSSS scholarship.
  2. Educational Qualification: They should have completed 12th grade from a school affiliated with JKBOSE or CBSE in these UTs.
  3. Family Income: The candidates whose annual family is not more than Rs. 8 lakhs per annum is eligible to apply for PMSSS Scholarship 2024.
  4. Exclusions: Students enrolled in open universities, those using management quotas, those receiving other forms of financial aid, and those working toward postgraduate degrees or diplomas are not eligible to apply for PMSSS Scholarship 2024.
  5. Lateral Entry: Graduates of accredited polytechnics may apply for lateral admission to engineering programs under PMSSS.

PMSSS Application Process

  1. Visit official AITCE
  2. Select ‘PMSSS 2024-25 Registration’ tab.
  3. Choose ‘12th Registration (2023-24)’.
  4. Fill in required details and click ‘Register’.
  5. Login with Email ID and Password.
  6. Enter necessary information, upload documents, and submit.

PMSSS Selection Process

The selection process within the PMSSS scheme comprises the following:

1. Document Verification and Registration

Applicants must visit the nearest Facilitation Centre, in Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh, to verify the authenticity of their documents. The verified documents must upload on the Facilitation Centre’s portal, duly stamped. Upon successful document verification, candidates should ensure that they collect a copy of the document verification report without any delays.

2. Choice Filling

The choice filling window for course preferences will only be accessible to candidates who complete the registration process and successfully verify their documents at one of the Facilitation Centres. It’s essential to note that the choice filling window will close on the specified last date, and no further changes in the order of preference are allowed.

3.Merit List and Counselling

The provisional merit list, prepares on the basis of  Class XII/ Diploma results, and is available after the declaration of results. Students whose names appear on the provisional merit list must attend the counselling sessions.

Seat allocation takes place through an online counselling process, taking into account the candidate’s merit and scholarship availability.

4. List of Eligible Institutions/Universities

A list of institutions and universities where admissions are being offered will be compiled and presented in the candidate’s login for the purpose of choice filling.

It is advisable that the eligible candidates select their courses from this list of institutions and universities.

Candidate must note that scholarships will not be awarded to candidates who enroll in institutions or universities not included in the AICTE portal’s list, except for MBBS/ BDS/ allied medicinal courses and those with no supernumerary quota in Central/State Government institutions.

5. Reservation Policies

The scholarship scheme adheres to the reservation norms set by the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh (subject to notifications from these UTs) for categories such as SC, ST, and Socially and Economically Backward Classes (SEBC).
